Queensland’s first permanent LGBTIQ artwork!!
The Neighbourhood Centre is very proud to be home to the first public sculpture celebrating LGBTIQ pride in Queensland thanks to the support of Brisbane City Council and the local queer community.
The LGBTIQ permanent artwork sculpture was unveiled on Saturday, 13 September 2014 in the front grounds of the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre (NFNC). The artwork commemorates the local Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) community, and aims to enhance the visibility and social inclusion of the Queer community.
This sculpture has been made possible through the generous support of the Brisbane City Council via a Community Development project grant and the in kind support of local businesses. Now unveiled, the design of the artwork will encourage people to engage with it, thereby providing a further educational aspect. Another feature is the inbuilt lighting system, specifically designed to complement and accentuate the form and meaning of the artwork. It will provide the artwork with a shimmering presence, particularly as night falls.
