The Talking to Seniors Project involved volunteers at the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre interviewing local seniors to gain insights into their personal histories and what New Farm was like in the past. In the course of the project volunteers met regularly to determine who to interview, the sorts of questions to ask and how to record the interviews on mini-disc. They then ventured out to meet and interview the seniors and record their stories. The interviews were transcribed and added as a new section to our website. Topics like the old New Farm tram line, jazz in the 60s and changing fashions are covered and you can read each person’s story by clicking in their name. Council on the Ageing Queensland lent strong support to the project, which was funded by the Department of Communities.
