Our Centre offers a variety of support services in a safe space, open to everyone. Visit us to find out about our facilities and services, and see what activities we have happening.

We offer:

• Information and referral – drop-in or call us to ask for information about local services and support or book an appointment for a chat about how we can help.
• Food relief, supported by Second Bite, food packages are prepared and are available for pick up on Tuesdays.
• Computers – book the use of one of our computers. You can access printing, photocopying and use our phone.
• Laundry and showers are available for anyone to use.
• Our library – please borrow or contribute books to our free book exchange.
• Emergency relief – book an appointment or call Monday-Thursday, 1:30-3:30pm to discuss emergency relief.
• No-Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) – talk to us about how this program can help you.
• Our coffee cart program serves the wider community, selling fresh Merlo coffee to passers-by and visitors allowing us to provide free coffee to those who need a hand.

Our Centre offers a range of activities that are crucial for good physical and mental health. Have a look at our What’s on Section for more information.

We are committed to sustainable practice through our involvement in the:

• Kitchen garden – an edible garden is being established at the Centre, growing food for use in our kitchens and supporting local people with fresh produce.
• Composting hub – in collaboration with the Brisbane City Council, the Centre hosts a composting hub in New Farm Park. Register at brisbane.qld.gov.au Composting caddies may be collected from the Centre or from Brisbane City Council.

The Centre is supported by a number of visiting health practitioners who offer free or low cost including:

• Visiting GP and other medical services
• Homeopath
• Dietician
• Hearing checks
• Quit smoking program

Communify has a broad range of services and programs that offer support and assistance to our community. New Farm Neighbourhood Centre provides a gateway to this suite of services.

• Housing and homelessness
• Aged services
• Childcare
• Mental health programs
• Family support programs
• Multicultural programs
• Alcohol and other drug programs

• Volunteers make a huge contribution to the Centre. We welcome volunteers and have a range of opportunities available. Talk to us about how you can get involved.
• The Patrons of New Farm is a local group of people and businesses who are committed to financially supporting our local community.
• Donations can be made in person or through our website. We also welcome donations of good quality books for our library. While we’re grateful for the offer, please understand that we can’t accept donations of clothing, furniture or household goods.

Use of Patrons’ funds

Patrons’ funds are used on a case-by-case basis to pay for individuals’ specific and immediate needs through the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre (located opposite New Farm Park).  This is done in a  variety of ways such as:

• Assisting with one-off low cost rent shortfalls to prevent people losing their home and entering the cycle of homelessness
• Buying an essential item such as a fridge for homeless people moving into accommodation
• Funding emergency accommodation

The Cart, the socially inclusive coffee hub at the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre is an initiative of The Patrons and New Farm Neighbourhood Centre.  The Cart provides a place for people from different walks of life in our community to mingle amidst fabulous Merlo coffee. Visitors to The Cart are invited to ‘pay it forward’ by shouting a coffee for someone in the community.

Your fully tax deductible donation of $1000 will directly support vulnerable people in your community.

• Meet and network with interesting and like minded individuals and business people from your community at relaxed functions twice a year
• Your contribution will be acknowledged on our website and through our networks.

Please note, during centre open hours the space for hire is connected to the main activities of the neighbourhood centre, and some foot traffic may pass through. Centre hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am to 1pm. All other times this space offers complete privacy.

A socially inclusive coffee hub, at which people from within the wonderfully diverse community that is the New Farm peninsula can come together over an excellent cup of coffee.

The New Farm Neighbourhood Centre has always provided a welcoming and relaxing place for people to meet and tap into local support services. The Cart Community Coffee extends that welcome by providing somewhere where people can pass time with friends in a safe and relaxing environment. It also creates employment opportunities for those without work by training them to work as baristas.

Neighbours, commuters, passers-by and other members of the community are invited to stop and share a coffee in the gardens or to pick up a take-away on their way past.

When you buy a cup of coffee you have the choice of spending a little extra to pay a coffee forward for someone who is unable to buy one.
